Part 565 Vehicle Identification Number
Title 49 Parts 565 and 566 require that the manufacturer of motor vehicles submit very specific information to NHTSA. In this case a motor vehicle may be a passenger vehicle, light truck, recreational vehicle, heavy truck, low speed vehicle, trailer or motorcycle. Part 565 requires manufacturers to submit a code for deciphering their 17 digit Vehicle Identification Number. Part 566 requires manufacturers to identify themselves.
